God says he’s like a tree… or trees are like him. But what about those trees that are nothing but colorful, bright, and obnoxiously beautiful?

We usually want our words to show people how human we are. And as we tell people about who God is, we want people to know that God relates to humans on so many levels. I’d rather people hear how much like a tree I am–and how tree-like God can be.
When I lost Cassie, I lost the feeling of being known by someone. Losing that leads to unexpected feelings of loneliness that I can’t quite express to other people. It can be isolating and overwhelming. Whenever Cassie would feel overwhelmed, she would look at me and say, “Let’s just run away to Mexico.” So when that feeling blindsided me last week, I decided to run away… to Mexico.
